The versatile Wedgehog Cot Wedge

Cot wedges (reflux wedges) can cut down the amount a baby regurgitates considerably. It is also the first step in managing a baby’s reflux before the introduction of medication or other techniques.

Positioning and inclining the upper body of your little one is the single most important thing when trying to manage reflux. By having the head raised gravity helps keep the stomach acids down and stops them elevating up to the throat.

Essentially it’s about making the choice between placing wedge either underneath or on top of the cot mattress. The Wedgehog works well without a cover, for a cost effective wedge that is placed underneath the cot mattress, if you have a special feature mattress or mattress cover or you do not want to put anything directly into the cot area. The wedgehog is also available covered, for placing into the cot, on top of the mattress. The covers are super-soft and washable for the best experience. We are also developing covers which are made from medical grade fabrics, used in NHS trust hospitals.

How do I position the wedge in the cot/crib?
Always ensure that your baby’s feet are at the foot of their cot/crib, so keep them safe. The 18 degree Wedgehog without cover is placed under the mattress, or with cover, is placed on top of the mattress.wedgehog product message for ebay

To do this, you may need to position the wedge half-way down the cot/crib, depending on the size of your baby and type of bed used. With Moses baskets and cribs, you probably won’t have to move the Wedgehog too far, before your baby’s feet reach the foot of the bed. With a cot/cotbed, you may need to move the wedgehog closer to the centre, while your baby is young and then as baby’s grows, alter the placement of the wedgehog to allow for baby’s increased length.

Your baby’s head and shoulders are positioned centrally on the elevated area, with baby’s bottom on the flatter area of the mattress. Each baby is unique, so exact positioning needs to be tailored and will be different for cribs and cots. If your baby fidgets and rolls around on the mattress – it may be advisable to use a sleep positioner.
Always make sure when using a wedgehog on top of your mattress, that the baby is not suspended completely on the wedge itself. Their bottom must remain on the mattress and the wedge starts at the small of their back all the way up to the head. If the baby is positioned too high on the wedge, they will be able to use their legs and hips to navigate off the wedge.

Our Wedgehog range is bought by 1000’s of parents a month and helps reduce the symptoms of reflux and upper-respiratory issues considerably. They have fast become the best selling non-medicated options for families starting out on this roller-coaster.
